Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has urged the club to prioritize signing Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes in the January transfer window as a replacement for the injured Rodri, reports the Daily Mail.
Rodri, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, has left a significant gap in City’s midfield, with the Premier League champions enduring a seven-game winless streak before their recent 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Guardiola is keen on the Brazilian midfielder, who has been on City’s radar since the summer, when the club opted to bring back Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona instead. While other options like Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Atalanta’s Ederson are being considered, Guardiola has reportedly insisted on securing Guimaraes’ services to reinforce the squad’s defensive pivot.
