Jada Pollock, talent manager and partner of Afrobeat superstar Wizkid, has voiced her frustration over being labeled solely as a “baby mama” despite her significant contributions to the music industry. In an interview with BET UK, Pollock revealed how this narrow narrative often undermines her achievements as an entrepreneur and businesswoman.
Recalling an incident after Wizkid’s Grammy win, she expressed disappointment at how blogs attributed her celebratory statement to her personal relationship rather than recognizing her professional expertise. “When Wizkid won a Grammy, I wrote a statement about how far Afrobeat has come. They published the statement, and the caption was ‘Wizkid baby mama.’ The narrative does not recognize that I’m an entrepreneur and a hardworking businesswoman. I’m not only a mother but also a manager, and I’ve helped build a legacy,” she said.
Pollock, who began managing Wizkid in 2014, has played a crucial role in shaping his international career while also balancing motherhood. The pair welcomed their first son, Zion, in 2017 and their second child, AJ, in 2022.
Her remarks shed light on the broader issue of recognizing women for their professional accomplishments rather than reducing them to their personal roles. Jada Pollock continues to be a driving force in the global rise of Afrobeat, advocating for equity in how women in the industry are portrayed.
