The Imo State Government has congratulated Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, on winning her second consecutive African Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award at the CAF Awards ceremony held on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Obinna Onyeocha, praised Nnadozie’s consistency and exceptional performances, describing her as a symbol of pride for Imo State and Nigeria.

Onyeocha commended Nnadozie’s resilience and heroic displays throughout the football season, which earned her global recognition. He also highlighted her journey from playing for Heartland Queens of Owerri to becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated athletes.

The commissioner acknowledged the role of Chinedu Iwu, who discovered and nurtured Nnadozie’s talent, and urged her to continue striving for excellence while inspiring young athletes across the state.

“Your achievements are a source of pride for Imo State and Nigeria. We encourage you to keep the flag flying high,” Onyeocha stated.

He also extended congratulations to Ademola Lookman, who won the African Men’s Footballer of the Year Award, emphasizing Nigeria’s growing prominence in international football. Onyeocha reaffirmed Governor Hope Uzodimma’s commitment to sports development and talent nurturing in the state.
