A 63-year-old plumber, Akin Kuboye, was rescued alive on Sunday by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service after being trapped in a 120-meter-deep well at a property in Igando, Lagos State.
The dramatic rescue occurred at 20, Muyibi Adebayo Street, off Agric Road, Egan–Igando, after the agency received a distress call at 9:54 a.m. The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the successful operation in a statement.
According to Adeseye, Kuboye became trapped while working inside the well at the rear of a 14-room bungalow on the premises, which spans approximately 648 square meters. The Ejigbo Rescue crew arrived promptly and worked tirelessly to save him from the life-threatening situation.
“The tenacity of the Ejigbo Rescue crew successfully brought out the acclaimed plumber alive from the well,” Adeseye said.
After his rescue, Kuboye was handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for immediate medical attention. He was stabilized after inhaling ammonia gas and transported to the hospital for further treatment.
The swift response and coordinated efforts of the firefighters have been praised as a testament to the professionalism and efficiency of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in handling emergencies.
