Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has challenged Enzo Fernandez to deliver consistent top-tier performances and lead Chelsea’s charge for the 2024-25 Premier League title.

Fernandez, who joined the Blues from Benfica for a record £107 million in January 2023, has been in remarkable form, scoring three goals in his last four league games. The Argentine was instrumental in Chelsea’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham, completing 49 of 51 passes, creating a chance, taking two shots, and winning five of his 10 duels.

Speaking on Stadium Astro, Mikel praised Fernandez’s resurgence after a slow start to the season. “Sometimes you need that kick up your backside to wake up,” Mikel said. “His performances weren’t good at the start of the season, and everyone was complaining. The manager took him out of the firing line to protect him, and now he’s come back stronger.”

Mikel highlighted Fernandez’s role as a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield and urged him to embrace his responsibilities as a leader on the pitch. “He’s the captain right now. We need him to lead by example on the pitch,” Mikel added.

Fernandez’s resurgence has reignited hopes for Chelsea fans as the team looks to reclaim its position among the Premier League’s elite.
