Rivers United’s technical adviser, Finidi George, has applauded his players for their resilience and performance in Sunday’s 2-1 win against Kwara United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Goals from Timothy Zacharia and David Benjamin secured the victory for the Pride of Rivers, while Akani Akeem netted the lone goal for the visitors in a tightly contested NPFL fixture.
Speaking after the game, Finidi admitted the encounter was tough but expressed satisfaction with his team’s determination. “It’s been a long time since we scored two goals in a game, and doing it against Kwara United is good for the team,” he said.
Finidi revealed that last season’s struggles against Kwara United added to the challenge. “I told them it was going to be a difficult game because last season Rivers United didn’t win. Unfortunately, we conceded, but the players fought back. Making two quick changes helped us get the win.”
The result strengthens Rivers United’s position in the league as they continue their push for top honors.
