A tragic road accident on Tuesday night claimed the lives of 12 people, including 10 male adults, one female adult, and one female child, along the Bayamari-Geidam road in Yobe State.
The crash occurred at around 10:00 pm at Km 20, Chelluri village, when a Sharon mini-bus with registration number BAU 124 YF collided with a stationary Howo truck belonging to Dan Nene Construction Company. The bus caught fire, burning all occupants beyond recognition.
Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, Sector Commander of the Yobe State FRSC, attributed the crash to road obstruction by the truck and excessive speed and overloading by the bus driver.
Yilzoom advised motorists to avoid night travels, particularly during the harmattan season with reduced visibility, and urged strict adherence to road safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.
