Nigerian music sensation Shallipopi has publicly accused his former record label, Dapper Music, of financial exploitation and breach of trust, just weeks after parting ways with the label in November 2024.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the artist expressed his disappointment over the mishandling of his finances and alleged disregard for his rights. Shallipopi described his decision to sever ties with Dapper Music as necessary after feeling betrayed by those entrusted with his career.

“I am officially ending my agreement with Dapper Music and Dvpper Digital. This was not a choice I made lightly, but a step I had to take after my trust was broken, my finances mishandled, and my rights were disregarded as an artist,” Shallipopi stated.

He emphasized that his experience represents a larger issue within the music industry, where creators often face exploitation. “This is bigger than just me. It is about every artiste and creator who pours their soul into their work, only to face betrayal and exploitation from people that should be looking out for them. It is about standing up for fairness, integrity, and respect that we all deserve,” he added.

The artist also criticized the label for prioritizing profits over his artistic growth, claiming that his career and dreams were put at risk.

Shallipopi’s allegations have sparked discussions about artist-label relationships in the Nigerian music industry, with many calling for better protections and fairness for creators.
