Heavily armed security operatives, including police and State Security Service (SSS) personnel, have taken control of the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting movement into and out of the premises.
This development follows Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s plans to install Munir Sanusi, the newly appointed Wamban Kano, as the District Head of Bichi. Emir Sanusi was expected to accompany the appointee to his district post in Bichi, a move that has reportedly escalated tensions in the region.
Sources confirm that the Bichi Emir’s Palace is also under tight security, with armed personnel stationed to maintain order. This situation arises amidst a brewing conflict over the Kano Emirate Council Law, which recently invalidated five emirates, including Bichi, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
The law stripped several emirs of their chiefdoms, sparking controversy. While three second-class emirs were subsequently appointed, the Bichi Emirate was downgraded to a district. APC National Chairman Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje has defended the validity of the Bichi Emirate and Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero’s authority, further intensifying the standoff.
