Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has opened up about his unexpected journey into professional music, describing himself as an “accidental musician.” The Great Nation crooner revealed during a recent episode of the On The Record podcast that music was initially just a hobby for him before his life took a transformative turn.

“I still see myself as an accidental musician,” Dakolo shared. “I used to sing in the choir and during morning devotion. Music was something I enjoyed, but I never thought I’d pursue it as a career.”

It was his victory at the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007 that changed everything. The win marked a pivotal moment, pushing him to take music seriously. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “After Idols, I decided to do music professionally. I said to myself, ‘Okay, we are here. Sometimes you meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it.’”
