A fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Kara Bridge claimed the life of a truck driver in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The tragic incident occurred around 4:26 a.m., prompting an immediate emergency response.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the accident in a statement, revealing that the articulated truck, laden with steel coils, lost control while attempting to avoid a collision with a 40-foot container on the road. The truck overturned, spilling its cargo and causing significant disruptions to traffic flow.
Emergency responders from LASEMA swiftly arrived at the scene, implementing safety measures and coordinating efforts to restore vehicular movement. The recovery operation was completed successfully, and traffic resumed on the busy expressway.
Investigations indicate that the driver’s attempt to evade the container led to the fatal crash. Authorities have not yet identified the truck’s registration number or the driver’s details. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines on highways to prevent similar tragedies.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major route for commuters and goods transportation, has seen multiple accidents in recent months, raising concerns about road safety and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
