Tragedy struck in the Federal Capital Territory as the body of Mrs. Esther Adesiyan, one of the five residents abducted from Chikakore community in Kubwa, was discovered in a bush near Itagbajii village, Niger State, on Monday night.

Mrs. Adesiyan, her husband Akinropo Adesiyan, their son Ifeoluwa, a family member Dr. Adekunle Adeniji, and a neighbor working at a poultry farm were kidnapped by gunmen at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. The wife of the poultry worker sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the abduction, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, assured that security operatives were working tirelessly to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

Narrating the discovery of the corpse, Mr. Oluwafemi Adepoju, a colleague and close associate of the victim’s husband, revealed that he was summoned by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Byazhin Police Station at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

“When I got to Byazhin Police Station, the DPO, Michael Adah, informed me that we were going to Niger State to identify a recovered body,” Adepoju said.

Upon arrival at a general hospital near Dikko community in Niger State, Adepoju identified the remains of Mrs. Adesiyan. According to reports from security operatives and vigilantes in the area, they had heard a gunshot around 9 p.m. on Monday while patrolling the Itagbajii village. Her body bore bruises, and she had been shot in the left side of her chest.

The incident has heightened concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings in Abuja and surrounding states, with many residents calling for enhanced security measures. The fate of the remaining abducted individuals remains uncertain as security operatives intensify search efforts.

Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activities that could aid in the rescue of the remaining victims. Meanwhile, tension continues to rise in the Chikakore community as families and neighbors mourn the brutal killing of Mrs. Adesiyan.
