Amotekun operatives in Ekiti State have arrested a 25-year-old man, Ojo Adewunmi, for attempting to rape a 19-year-old girl at Ilawe-Ekiti on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
According to the Head of Communications for the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, Adeleye Abiodun Adewale, the suspect allegedly locked the teenager in a room and tried to assault her. The victim’s screams for help alerted neighbors and prompted a swift response from the local Amotekun operatives, who arrived at the scene just in time to prevent the attack.
The victim recounted her ordeal, stating that she felt completely helpless until the officers intervened. “I thought no one would come to my rescue,” she said, expressing gratitude to the operatives who saved her from further harm.
The suspect has been handed over to the Ilawe-Ekiti Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities have assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice for the victim.
