The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Sir Tersoo Kula, has refuted allegations that he described the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as a madman.

Addressing the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council on Wednesday, Kula dismissed the accusations as baseless and part of a deliberate campaign to tarnish the governor’s image and undermine his administration’s achievements.

“I categorically deny insulting Senator Akume. My principal, Governor Hyacinth Alia, is focused on delivering results, but some individuals are determined to sabotage his efforts and mislead the public,” Kula stated.

He also criticized the SGF’s silence over alleged attacks on Governor Alia by pro-SGF groups like the so-called “Agidi Choir.” Kula emphasized the governor’s commitment to progress, citing milestones such as rural development, youth and women empowerment, school rehabilitation, and timely payment of salaries and pensions.

“Governor Alia has demystified governance in Benue. In just one year and eight months, we’ve achieved what others could not in longer tenures. Yet, some people remain intent on undermining these efforts,” he said.

Kula defended his evolving role as CPS, explaining that while he is no longer practicing journalism, he leverages his experience to manage the governor’s public image and respond to unwarranted criticisms.

The CPS concluded by questioning the motives behind the persistent attacks on the governor and his administration. “Why are there wranglings when the administration is delivering? Why is the CPS, who is doing his job, being criticized for defending the governor?” he asked.
