Chelsea has confirmed the departure of 21-year-old defender Renato Veiga, who has joined Juventus on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2024/2025 season. The move was announced via the club’s official website on Monday, January 28, 2025.

Veiga, who signed with Chelsea from FC Basel last July, has struggled for regular playing time under manager Enzo Maresca despite making 18 appearances across all competitions this season. Seeking more consistent minutes in his preferred defensive role, the Portuguese defender opted to move to the Serie A giants.

“Chelsea defender Renato Veiga will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Serie A side Juventus,” the club said in a statement. “We look forward to supporting his development throughout the loan. Good luck, Renato!”

Veiga has been a sought-after talent, attracting interest from several European clubs during the January transfer window. However, he chose to swap London for Turin, where Juventus is expected to provide him with more opportunities to play and develop his skills.

The move highlights Chelsea’s continued efforts to provide young players with opportunities for growth through loan spells, especially with competition for places intensifying under Maresca’s tenure. For Juventus, Veiga’s versatility and defensive abilities will be a valuable addition to their squad as they aim to bolster their backline for the remainder of the season.

The Portuguese defender joins a list of Chelsea players sent on loan this season as the club seeks to manage a bloated squad and ensure its younger players gain valuable experience.
