An Enugu High Court has issued a stern warning to the ousted National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, prohibiting him from parading himself as the party’s scribe or risk imprisonment for contempt of court.
In a judgment delivered by Justice C.O. Ajah, the court stated that Anyanwu forfeited his position after being elected as the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Imo State in April 2023 while still serving as National Secretary, thereby creating a conflict of interest.
The ruling followed a case filed by Emmanuel Aniagu, with the PDP and key party leaders as defendants. The court directed that Hon. S.K.E. Udeh Okoye, recommended by the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, should assume the position of PDP National Secretary to complete the tenure left vacant by Anyanwu.
Justice Ajah highlighted that Anyanwu’s dual roles compromised the party’s internal processes, stating, “By occupying both positions, the 3rd defendant made himself a judge in his own cause.”
The court ordered strict compliance and cautioned Anyanwu against flouting the directive, which would result in imprisonment.
