The lifeless body of Remedy Yange, a personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was discovered on a roadside in Lagos on Monday, January 28, 2025. Yange, who hails from Benue State, was reportedly on leave to spend time with his family when the tragic incident occurred.

A video circulating on social media shows passersby gathered around Yange’s body, attempting to identify him. His identity was eventually confirmed through an EFCC identity card found in a bag beside his body. The shocking discovery has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death. “We are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this tragedy,” Oyewale stated.

This marks the second death of an EFCC operative in recent weeks. On January 19, assistant superintendent officer Aminu Salisu was reportedly killed in Anambra during an operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters. Salisu’s death was linked to Joshua Ikechukwu, a suspect involved in coding and dubious online medical supplies, who allegedly resisted arrest.

The EFCC has condemned these incidents, reiterating the dangers its operatives face while discharging their duties. Oyewale called for cooperation from the public to aid in bringing perpetrators of such acts to justice.

Yange’s death has sparked reactions across social media, with many expressing outrage and calling for enhanced security measures for law enforcement personnel. Meanwhile, EFCC operatives continue their work despite increasing threats, vowing to uphold their mandate against financial crimes.
