A commercial bus crash along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway left eight passengers injured after the vehicle slammed into a highway median on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The accident, which occurred during the evening rush, caused significant traffic delays as emergency responders worked to rescue victims and clear the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, allegedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle, lost control and collided with the concrete barrier. The impact left several passengers with varying degrees of injuries, while others escaped unhurt.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), arrived promptly to provide medical assistance and manage traffic. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving treatment.

Officials have attributed the crash to reckless driving and overspeeding, warning drivers to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable incidents. LASTMA’s spokesperson stated, “We urge all road users to prioritize safety. Speeding and overtaking on busy roads have dire consequences.”

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway, a key route for commuters and traders, has long been prone to accidents due to its high traffic volume and driver misconduct. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb road crashes, including increased patrols and public awareness campaigns.
