Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans, is attempting to negotiate a plea bargain with the Lagos State Government amid his ongoing trial for multiple serious charges. The notorious kidnap kingpin, facing re-arraignment at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja, is seeking leniency as he claims to have turned a new leaf.

Evans’ legal counsel, Emefo Etudo, revealed that the defendant is now a 200-level student at the National Open University of Nigeria. “Evans has shown significant signs of remorse,” Etudo stated. “He excelled in all subjects, scoring A1 in NECO exams conducted while he was in prison, courtesy of a Federal Government scholarship.”

During the court proceedings, the Lagos State prosecution, led by Sule Yusuf, presented amended charges against Evans, including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The prosecution alleges that Evans and his accomplice, Joseph Emeka, are responsible for the deaths of Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi.

The court has received Evans’ plea bargain application, though he and his co-defendant entered not-guilty pleas to the charges. Sule Yusuf requested that the defendants remain in custody as legal proceedings continue.

The high-profile case continues to garner significant public attention due to Evans’ notorious past and unexpected transformation while in prison.
