Prince Eze Madumere, former Deputy Governor of Imo State, has urged Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in their home country, describing them as catalysts for the state’s and nation’s socio-economic transformation. Madumere made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Imo State Diaspora Summit, held in Owerri, with the theme IMO-GA-ADI-MMA (Imo Will Be Better).

During his speech, Madumere emphasized that the contributions of Diasporans, particularly through their remittances, play a pivotal role in boosting the nation’s economy. He noted that these financial inflows are essential to the country’s capital and portfolio ratios, underscoring their importance in stimulating economic activity.

Madumere specifically urged Diasporans to explore investment opportunities in Imo State, which he believes has the capacity to accommodate industrial ventures. Drawing attention to the industrial estate established by the late Dr. Sam Mbakwe, former governor of the state, Madumere encouraged investors to take advantage of the available land and establish industries that would create jobs and engage Imo’s growing youth population.

He stated, “Diasporans have the capability, acumen, and financial muscle to turn things around. All eyes are on you to help rescue society from poverty and deprivation.” Madumere highlighted that the state has created a conducive environment for business growth, offering security and the right infrastructure for investors to thrive.

Madumere further stressed that while the government has made strides, it cannot single-handedly solve the problems of unemployment and economic stagnation. He called on Nigerians abroad to contribute to the sustainable development of the state by engaging in productive ventures that will help create a stable economy.

He expressed his pleasure in being part of the landmark event, recognizing the organizers for their efforts to shape the future of the state through such a well-thought-out initiative. “This summit will go a long way in assisting the government and shaping the narratives of our state and its people,” Madumere stated.

The former Deputy Governor praised the summit for highlighting the crucial role of Diasporans in societal development, stating, “Diasporans serve as catalysts to socio-economic development and sustainability. Their remittances are crucial to the growth of the nation.”
