Gunmen suspected to be bandits unleashed terror on Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving at least 15 people dead and many others missing in a devastating attack.
The assault, which occurred on Tuesday, saw the assailants moving from house to house, wreaking havoc in the community, widely regarded as a bandit stronghold. Eyewitnesses reported that some of the victims’ bodies were set ablaze by the attackers.
A resident, speaking anonymously to Channels Television, revealed the grim aftermath of the attack: “About 15 persons died on the spot while several others are still unaccounted for. The hoodlums also burnt some of the corpses.”
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident on Friday but stated that detailed information was still being compiled. “Yes, it is true. But I am trying to put all the details together so that I will keep you posted,” he said.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Katsina State, as bandits continue to assert control over rural communities, leaving residents in fear and mourning.
