Prophet Yomi Adetula, the spiritual head of the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle Parish, in Idiroko, Ogun State, was tragically shot dead by three suspected gunmen during a Sunday service. The horrifying incident occurred on January 19, 2025, in full view of congregants.

Adetula, aged 54, was not only a prophet but also a Commander in the Ogun State So-Safe Security outfit. According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Office, the attackers entered the church during the service, opened fire on Adetula, and mangled his head with an axe before fleeing the scene.

A police statement detailed the events, saying, “At about 10:30 AM, the divisional police officer in Idiroko received a report that someone had been killed at Celestial Church along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko. Officers arrived at the scene to find Yomi Adetula lying lifeless in a pool of blood. His white Celestial garment was stained, and his body showed multiple gunshot wounds.”

The gunmen, armed with double-barrel guns, reportedly ensured the prophet’s death before escaping toward the border area. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Adetula’s remains have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ilaro for an autopsy, while police investigations continue. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting calls for heightened security measures in places of worship.
