Nigerian singer and content creator Nasboi has declared that when he eventually decides to settle down, his marriage will remain private and away from social media scrutiny. The skit maker made this known on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, amid the widespread online reactions trailing 2Baba’s recent announcement of his divorce from Annie Idibia.
Taking to his X handle, Nasboi stated that he would not subject his personal life to public opinions, emphasizing that he does not want random people offering unsolicited advice about his marriage.
“I’ll hide my marriage when I’m ready. Nothing online, please, please! I don’t want some random child having opinions about my life,” he wrote.
In another post, Nasboi cautioned Nigerians against using celebrity marriages as a standard for defining relationships, urging people to draw inspiration from their parents and other long-lasting unions instead.
“One celebrity divorce, and you start saying this thing called marriage isn’t for you. But you forget about your parents, who’ve been married for over 30-something years. Stop using celebrity marriages to define marriage. If you don’t want to marry, that’s your business,” he added.
His statement has since sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that social media often amplifies the negative side of celebrity relationships. Others, however, argued that public figures cannot entirely avoid scrutiny, given their influence and reach.
With more Nigerian entertainers opting for low-key relationships amid increasing online pressure, Nasboi’s stance adds to the growing debate on the effects of social media on personal lives.
