Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has expressed deep regret over her earlier advocacy for the exhumation of late Nigerian singer Mohbad’s body, citing the prolonged burial delays and escalating family disputes.

Speaking on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast hosted by Biola Bayo, Iyabo revealed her disappointment with the aftermath of her efforts to ensure justice for Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances.

“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way,” Iyabo lamented. “He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But now, there are additional conditions from his father.”

The actress highlighted her initial intentions, explaining that the call for exhumation was motivated by a desire to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s death. “I just wanted Mohbad’s body exhumed so they could do the autopsy to find out the cause of his death,” she said. “I did my best to ensure thorough investigations, but now DNA tests have taken precedence.”

Mohbad’s body was exhumed by the Lagos State Police on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy. However, controversies deepened when his father, Joseph Aloba, insisted that the singer would not be reburied until a DNA test confirmed the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam.

The delay has sparked widespread frustration among fans and advocates seeking closure. Critics have pointed out how the prolonged disputes have overshadowed the initial calls for justice.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was buried the day after his death in Ikorodu, Lagos. His sudden passing has since been a subject of public outcry, with demands for transparency and accountability over the circumstances surrounding it.
