A heroic act of integrity unfolded in Kebbi State as a police officer from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) rejected a N1 million bribe offered by suspected bandits attempting to compromise an ongoing investigation.
The suspects, Umaru Garba, 53, of Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Mamman, 51, of Maimaichi village, and Usman Muhammadu, 50, of Bakaramba village, were arrested on January 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM. According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, the trio conspired to bribe the lead investigator at the SCID, State Headquarters in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.
The bribe was an attempt to derail the investigation into a case of banditry involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in the northern parts of Kebbi State. Despite the lucrative offer, the officer maintained his commitment to justice and immediately detained the suspects.
Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the officer’s professionalism and urged other law enforcement personnel to emulate his example. “This exemplary conduct reaffirms the Command’s dedication to eradicating banditry and fostering peace and socio-economic growth in Kebbi State,” he stated.
The suspects are currently in custody, with further investigations underway. They are expected to face charges in court soon.
This development highlights the Kebbi State Police Command’s unwavering resolve to combat organized crime and uphold the rule of law.
