The Lagos State Police have arraigned Stella Nwadigbo, a 46-year-old teacher caught on video physically assaulting a 3-year-old pupil, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The incident occurred on January 7 at Christ Mitot School, Ikorodu, Lagos, where Nwadigbo was filmed slapping and hitting the young boy during a numeracy lesson. The video, which went viral, sparked widespread outrage, prompting swift action from authorities.

According to prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem, Nwadigbo’s actions contravened Sections 135 and 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. The teacher pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate O. Kushanu granted the defendant bail of ₦200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 18 for mention.
