Manchester City are pushing to secure the signing of highly-rated 18-year-old center-back Vitor Reis from Brazilian club Palmeiras during the January transfer window.

The Premier League champions have made an initial offer worth €40 million for the teenage defender, aiming to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s backline in the second half of the season. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City are leading the race to land Reis, fending off interest from Brighton and other European clubs.

“Manchester City mission for Vitor Reis, ongoing in Brazil. Even today and in the next hours/days,” Romano stated on X. “Man City are working on it strong, €40m package. Talks on. Deal on.”

Reis, who joined Palmeiras’ youth academy in 2016 at just 10 years old, made his first-team debut last year and has since drawn attention with his outstanding performances. The young defender is seen as a significant addition to Guardiola’s squad as they aim to regain their top position in the Premier League, where they currently sit sixth with 34 points from 20 matches.

Should the deal materialize, Reis would be expected to provide depth and future potential for a City defence looking to recover from an inconsistent first half of the season.
