British-Nigerian shoe designer Liz Sanya has completed her ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest sandal, creating a stunning pink clog measuring 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length and 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width.
The record-breaking attempt, which began on January 2, 2025, and concluded within 72 hours on January 4, took place at Pixel Park, Lekki, Lagos. The event attracted a star-studded audience, including celebrities like Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime, who came to witness the feat.
Sanya’s sandal surpasses the current record held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, whose creation measured 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) long and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) wide.
Speaking after completing the project, Sanya expressed profound gratitude to her supporters and highlighted her personal connection to Nigeria as her motivation for choosing the country as the venue for her attempt.
“I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,” Sanya said. “Ibadan is where I was born. Lagos is where I was inspired. It was only right to come back home and prove it. One world record to beat, within 72 hours.”
The successful completion of the massive sandal is expected to elevate Sanya’s profile in the global fashion and design industry, while also showcasing Nigeria’s creativity and innovation on the world stage.
The Guinness World Records team is currently verifying the attempt, and the official certification is anticipated in the coming weeks.
