The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to write his name in gold by ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This appeal comes ahead of Tinubu’s official visit to Enugu State scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2025.

In a statement released by the Ohanaeze spokesperson, Alex Ogbonnia, Chukwu welcomed Tinubu to the South-East, expressing optimism over the Federal Government’s apparent shift in attitude toward the Igbo nation under his leadership.

Chukwu emphasized that Tinubu’s visit could serve as a turning point, fostering national peace and unity. He stated, “It is therefore hoped that with the Enugu visit, President Tinubu will write his name with gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and all well-meaning Nigerians if he orders the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

Ohanaeze highlighted that sustainable development and national harmony stem from equity and social justice. They lamented the severe existential threats posed by marginalization, deprivation, and external instigation of insecurity, urging Tinubu to address these issues.

The organization also commended Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his transformative projects, including the Enugu International Conference Centre, Smart Schools in all electoral wards, state-wide hospital upgrades, road constructions, and the resuscitation of key industries like Nigergas and Flour Mills.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State also earned accolades from Ohanaeze for equipping the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport with night-landing facilities, enhancing safety and boosting economic activities in the region.

As Tinubu prepares for his Enugu visit, Ohanaeze expressed hope that his presence would be met with Igbo hospitality and an opportunity to strengthen bonds with the region.
