Arsenal legend Paul Merson has speculated that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim might be questioning his decision to take on the role at Old Trafford following a challenging start to his tenure.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag, has only secured four wins in 12 Premier League games, including Sunday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham, leaving the Red Devils in a precarious position. With six losses so far this season, the young Portuguese tactician is struggling to revive the team’s fortunes.

Merson, speaking on Sky Sports, expressed concern over Amorim’s struggles, stating, “The manager will be sitting there deep down thinking: ‘Should I have taken this job?’ He didn’t want to take it until the end of the season, and now he might be wondering if he can do this job.”

Despite a stellar record in Portugal with Sporting CP, where he won five trophies, Amorim now finds himself under immense pressure at one of the world’s most demanding football clubs.

Manchester United currently sit outside the European qualification spots, and fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the team’s inconsistent performances.

Amorim’s next challenge will be guiding United through a difficult schedule, with questions looming over his ability to turn the season around.
