Controversial singer Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has finally regained his freedom from Kuje Prison. The activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the development on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”
His release follows a court order granting him bail, compelling the Nigeria Police Force to either charge him or set him free. The singer had earlier petitioned DIG Dasuki Galadanchi of the Force Intelligence Bureau, seeking enforcement of a December 23, 2024, ruling by Justice M.S. Liman. The judge directed the police to bring formal charges against the musician within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
Speed Darlington’s arrest stemmed from allegations he made involving Grammy Award winner Burna Boy and embattled U.S. rapper and music executive Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. The police responded by detaining him, sparking a wave of concern over potential rights violations. With his release, the controversial artist can now move forward while the legal process continues to unfold.
