Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has singled out Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon as the Premier League’s most underrated players this season. His comments followed Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on January 7, 2025.
The match, held at Emirates Stadium, saw Isak and Gordon score in either half, giving the Magpies a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg in February. Arsenal, despite several chances, failed to find the net, with Kai Havertz notably missing a close-range header.
Reacting on his X account, Oliseh praised the Newcastle duo for their consistency and game-changing abilities. “Sad day for Arsenal fans losing out to Newcastle, but I strongly feel these two players, Isak and Gordon, are arguably the most exciting duo and slightly the most underrated players of the Premier League this season,” he wrote.
Oliseh described Isak as his favorite player in the league, highlighting the striker’s flair and versatility. “Just love the variety they bring each game, and Isak is currently my favorite player in the Premier League. What a bunch of talent!” he added.
Both Isak and Gordon have played pivotal roles for Eddie Howe’s team this season. Their performances have propelled Newcastle to fifth place on the Premier League table with 35 points after 20 games, keeping them in contention for a top-four finish.
Newcastle fans and pundits alike have celebrated the pair’s contributions, with Gordon’s pace and creativity complementing Isak’s clinical finishing and technical prowess. As the season progresses, their impact is expected to grow, further establishing Newcastle as a formidable force.
