President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday night to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, a pivotal event aimed at accelerating energy access for 300 million Africans by 2030. His arrival at the Julius Nyerere International Airport at 10:20 p.m. (8:20 p.m. Nigerian time) was greeted by Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Salisu Suleiman.
The two-day summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Union, African Development Bank (AfDB), and World Bank, begins on Monday, January 27, 2025. It will bring together African leaders, energy experts, and stakeholders to strategize solutions for the continent’s energy challenges.
On the first day, ministerial-level discussions will see participating countries, including Nigeria, present their energy strategies—referred to as “compacts”—detailing plans to achieve universal energy access within five years. The second day will witness African Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap for achieving Mission 300 objectives.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national address reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to universal energy access and its leadership in advancing clean energy solutions on the continent. His address will also spotlight Nigeria’s innovative energy initiatives and integrated energy delivery strategies.
Accompanying the President are top officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen, underscoring the high stakes of the summit for Nigeria.
The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit presents a unique opportunity for African nations to collaborate and take decisive steps toward energy transformation.
