President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his election as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
Azuta-Mbata, who represented Rivers East in the Senate from 1999 to 2007, emerged as the leader of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group during its General Assembly meeting held in Enugu on Friday.
In a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu applauded the smooth leadership transition, urging the new executives to uphold the values of unity and progress exemplified by their predecessors.
“The President recognises the critical role of socio-cultural organisations in nation-building; hence, his commitment to promoting dialogue among our ethnic nationalities. He wishes the new Ohanaeze leader success in this noble task,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the South-East Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, pledged unwavering support for Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Uzodinma reaffirmed the governors’ collective resolve to strengthen the organization and foster unity across Igboland.
Addressing the convention, Uzodinma stated, “We congratulate Ndi Igbo on this harmonious and well-organized convention. Together, the South-East governors have resolved to make Ohanaeze stronger and more aligned with the vision of its founders.”
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was commended for hosting the historic event, which signaled a renewed commitment to the advancement of Igboland.
