President Bola Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025. The high-level summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to advance the ambitious “Mission 300” initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed that the summit will gather African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups to strategize on accelerating energy access across the continent. Discussions will emphasize renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilizing private sector investments.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access and highlighting ongoing clean energy initiatives. The statement will also underline Nigeria’s strategy for driving integrated energy delivery in Africa.

Key moments of the summit include:

  • Day 1: Ministerial-level presentations of national energy strategies from participating countries, including Nigeria.
  • Day 2: Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, outlining a collective roadmap for achieving “Mission 300” objectives.

The President will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.

Following the summit, President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja.
