The Tony Elumelu family has donated N100 million and essential food items to ten orphanages across Lagos State in a remarkable act of philanthropy. The initiative, flagged off by Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, took place at the Hearts of Gold Hospice in Masha, Surulere, on Saturday.

The donation included staples such as rice, beans, milk, sugar, and noodles, alongside a cash donation of N10 million to each beneficiary orphanage. Among the recipients were the Open Arms of Mercy Orphanage Home in Ago Palace Way and Atunda Olu Home in Surulere.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Elumelu emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable children and the communities dedicated to their care. “This initiative reflects our family’s commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities and assisting those who tirelessly care for vulnerable children,” she stated.

“This is nothing new. There are children everywhere who need our help. Whether through cash, kind, or time, everyone can contribute to making a difference,” she added.

Alero Ladipo, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication at United Bank of Africa (UBA), noted that the financial donations were intended to address specific needs such as medical care, rent, and essential supplies for the children.

Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Laja Adedoyin, founder of Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice, described the gesture as unprecedented. “This is beyond belief. Food is life, and in today’s Nigeria, having food means having everything,” she said.
