The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has accepted an invitation from President Bola Tinubu to visit Nigeria in 2025. The invitation was extended during bilateral talks held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi, where the leaders discussed strengthening economic collaboration between the two nations.
President Tinubu, in Abu Dhabi to participate in the UAE’s Sustainability Week, highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and urged the UAE to partner with Nigeria to bolster its economic development. He emphasized the renewed confidence of foreign investors, citing billion-dollar commitments from international oil companies and other sectors.
In response, Al Nahyan expressed the UAE’s determination to deepen its economic ties with Nigeria, thanking Tinubu for attending the global sustainability forum. The leaders also explored strategies to attract more investments into Nigeria, aligning with both nations’ mutual goals for sustainable development and economic prosperity.
Tinubu delivered Nigeria’s position on climate change, water scarcity, and energy crises during the Sustainability Week, reaffirming the country’s commitment to addressing global challenges through strategic partnerships.
The meeting was attended by top officials, including Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Joining Al Nahyan were the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs.
This diplomatic engagement underscores the growing relationship between Nigeria and the UAE, paving the way for stronger economic cooperation in the coming years.
