Activist lawyer Uche Nnam Okwukwu from Rivers State has been elected as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide at the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization’s convention in Port Harcourt.

Okwukwu, elected unopposed by delegates from the South-East and the Diaspora, pledged to defend the interests of all Igbos and uphold the tenets of Ohanaeze’s constitution. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized unity, restructuring, and addressing key grievances, including the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He outlined an ambitious agenda, including engaging the Federal Government to dredge and modernize coastal ports in Igboland, advancing state creation for equity, and ensuring the integration of Igbo communities nationwide. Okwukwu also vowed to modernize the Igbo language and promote its relevance in global commerce and technology.
