Afrobeats sensation Adekunle Gold has expressed strong concerns about the state of the Nigerian music industry, claiming it is being led by the wrong people who neither understand nor respect the craft.

Taking to his X handle, the singer lamented that artists, producers, and true creatives are being overshadowed by individuals who are not music-oriented, leading to misplaced priorities, overlooked talent, and the rise of mediocrity.

“People who have no business leading music conversations are now controlling and destroying the industry. Artists, producers, and real contributors are being overshadowed by people who don’t create, don’t understand, and don’t respect the craft,” he wrote.

The “Ogaranya” crooner emphasized that these misguided industry leaders promote false narratives that hinder real talent from thriving.

“When the wrong people lead the conversation, they push the wrong narratives. That’s why real talent is overlooked, and mediocrity thrives. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Adekunle Gold’s statement has sparked debate among fans and industry insiders, with many agreeing that the commercialization of music is shifting focus away from genuine talent. However, others argue that streaming numbers and global influence have reshaped the industry, making business-minded individuals a necessity.
