Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has made a surprising pick for the best Red Devils player he ever played alongside, snubbing Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney in favor of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Tuanzebe, who spent six seasons at Old Trafford but struggled for game time, made just 37 appearances before being loaned out to Aston Villa. Despite sharing the pitch with legendary figures like Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Michael Carrick, the 27-year-old chose the former Bayern Munich midfielder as the standout talent.

Speaking on The Overlap, Tuanzebe explained why Schweinsteiger left the biggest impression on him during his time at United:

“He was 34, 35 at the time … I couldn’t get anywhere near him, and I was 19! He was always three, four, five steps ahead. He knew how to control the ball and put me off balance.”

The former United defender described how the 2014 World Cup winner had an incredible ability to slow down time, making him one of the most technically gifted players he had ever seen.

Schweinsteiger, who played for United between 2015 and 2017, eventually left for MLS side Chicago Fire, where he retired in January 2020.

Tuanzebe’s pick has sparked debate among fans, with many questioning why Ronaldo, who won multiple titles at Old Trafford, didn’t make the cut.
