Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has hailed Nigerian singer Yemi Alade for proudly showcasing African culture at the 66th Grammy Awards, despite not winning an award.

In a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram page Tuesday night, Agu praised Alade’s contributions to Afrobeats and her unwavering embrace of African identity on the world stage.

“Yemi Alade, you are a queen. You may not have won the Grammy, but you clearly won my heart,” Agu declared.

He emphasized that her outfit at the award ceremony was more than fashion—it was a statement of cultural pride.

“You are putting African culture on the world map. Your outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you, I know my roots,’” he added.

The 69-year-old movie legend also commended Alade’s talent, discipline, and her role as an inspiration to young women.

“Do we talk about how decent and natural you have been as an artiste or how beautiful you are as a woman? You carry yourself as a lady, a role model. Yemi, keep being the inspiration you are to many young girls.”

Concluding his tribute, Agu jokingly referenced Alade’s hit song “Johnny”, expressing his admiration and wishing her happiness in her personal life.

“Chief Chiwetalu Agu admires and loves you so much. I pray you find Johnny at the right time.”
