Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has thrown his support behind under-fire goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, urging him to work hard and stay out of the spotlight after being dropped by manager Enzo Maresca.
Sanchez, who initially established himself as Chelsea’s No.1 ahead of Dorde Petrovic, has faced mounting criticism over a series of costly errors in the Premier League this season. The pressure intensified after Maresca opted to start Filip Jörgensen in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West Ham United on Monday, fueling speculation about a potential long-term change between the posts.
Cucurella’s Advice to Sanchez
In an interview with AS, Cucurella acknowledged his Spanish compatriot’s struggles but emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance.
“It’s difficult. I think it is also important for him to work and spend a little time out of the spotlight. All the players who have come here have had tough moments. The important thing is that he is well and that he continues working hard because surely the opportunity will come again, and when it does, he will be ready.”
Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Dilemma
With Maresca still assessing his options, speculation is rife about whether Sanchez will regain his starting role or if Jörgensen could become the first-choice goalkeeper. Some reports suggest Chelsea could re-enter the transfer market for a new shot-stopper this summer if performances don’t improve.
