A tragic accident along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway at Ogbere Junction, Ogun State, has left a truck assistant dead after a Mack truck carrying granite collided with an unidentified moving vehicle.
The incident, which occurred on February 15, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., involved a Mack truck with registration number TN 372 ZQ. The driver, whose identity remains unknown, reportedly lost control and rammed into another truck from behind.
According to Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the impact of the crash left the truck assistant, commonly known as a “motor boy,” with severe injuries. Efforts to save him proved futile as he later succumbed at the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode. Meanwhile, the unidentified truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle before authorities arrived.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was transporting granite from Ratcon Quarry Company in Ogbere to Sagamu when the driver lost control and hit another moving truck. The motor boy sustained severe injuries, and the fleeing truck driver remains at large,” Odutola stated.
Authorities have since towed the Mack truck to the police station for safekeeping and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) assessment. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, as police intensify efforts to track down the runaway driver.
Odutola urged truck drivers to adhere to strict road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies, emphasizing the need for extra caution on highways.
