First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace agriculture as a critical solution to food security, economic empowerment, and collective survival.
Speaking at the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Agricultural Support Programme in Awka, Tinubu—represented by Anambra First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo—stressed that agriculture remains the foundation of national self-sufficiency and sustainable development.
The initiative, held at Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, is training over 200 farmers from the state’s 21 local government areas in modern irrigation techniques, fish farming, piggery, vegetable farming, and poultry production.
“If we all embrace agriculture, especially backyard farming, we will be able to feed our families and tackle food scarcity. By learning new farming techniques, participants will achieve higher yields, reduce dependency on food imports, and empower rural communities,” Tinubu stated.
She emphasized that at the end of the training, farmers will receive financial support to expand their agricultural ventures, ultimately boosting food production both locally and nationally.
Dr. Njideka Chiekezie, Acting Rector of Anambra State Polytechnic, applauded the government’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and praised Governor Soludo’s Healthy Living Initiative, which promotes organic farming and food security.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ezekiel Okwuchukwu, shared his enthusiasm, noting that the new skills and knowledge gained will help him improve farm productivity and expand his agribusiness.
This initiative highlights the government’s intensified focus on agriculture as a pillar for economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.
