Award-winning Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has openly identified as a feminist, but made it clear that she does not support women disrespecting their husbands.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Akindele was seen advising the wife of popular skit maker Kamo State, stressing the importance of mutual respect in marriage.

“I’m a feminist, but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” she stated.

She further emphasized that women are not the weaker gender, urging men to treat their wives with respect and not see them as subordinates confined to the kitchen.

“Men should not feel a woman belongs to the kitchen and should be talked to anyhow. We women are strong and bold. Our economic power is very important, and that is why we must work hard to secure financial independence so we can support our husbands and families.”

Her comments have since sparked debate across social media, with some applauding her balanced perspective on feminism and marriage, while others questioned the complexities of power dynamics in relationships.

Akindele’s stance adds to the ongoing conversation about gender roles, economic empowerment, and mutual respect in African marriages.
