Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman and Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) leader, Edwin Clark, describing him as a fearless and outspoken patriot.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on his X handle on Tuesday, Keyamo honored Clark’s legacy as a political icon and a strong voice for the South-South region.
“Our leader and father is gone at a time we needed him most. Pa Edwin Clark, leader of the South-South, father of the nation, and quintessential patriot, is no more,” Keyamo wrote.
He praised the late statesman for his unwavering commitment to national service, noting that Clark transitioned from a formidable politician to a fearless advocate for justice and good governance in his later years.
“He was a consummate politician in his heyday and became a fearless and outspoken critic in his later years. He lived a very fulfilled life of service to our country. Condolences to the Clark family and the nation in general. He will be sorely missed,” he added.
Clark, who passed away on Monday at the age of 97, was a towering figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, known for his relentless advocacy for resource control, regional equity, and national unity.
His death marks the end of an era for the Niger Delta struggle and leaves a significant void in the country’s socio-political space.
