A 23-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Mubarak Abdullahi, was brutally murdered by a gang of hoodlums in the Zuba area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in the early hours of Monday.

The assailants reportedly ambushed Abdullahi around 5 a.m., striking him on the head with a hammer before making away with his motorcycle. The victim, a resident of neighboring Madalla town in Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area, was left critically injured by the roadside.

His younger brother, Bello Abdullahi, recounted how he received an alert about the attack.

“A neighbor told me my brother was found lying unconscious around the Nitel-Pole road. I rushed there around 7 a.m. and, with the help of others, took him to a clinic in Madalla. He was treated but, sadly, did not survive. He passed away later that night,” Bello narrated.

Local residents say the Nitel road, which links Zuba and Madalla, has become a notorious hotspot for criminal activities. Bala, a concerned resident, described the stretch as a danger zone where motorcyclists and pedestrians are frequently attacked, especially between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Shockingly, police in the area have confirmed that the crime was never reported at the station, raising concerns over security lapses and the reluctance of victims’ families to engage law enforcement.

The killing has further heightened fears over the growing insecurity in the FCT’s outskirts, with residents urging authorities to increase patrols and clamp down on criminal elements terrorizing the area.
