Residents of Ndagbo Afara in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, are living in fear after a mentally unstable man, identified as Ibekwe Augustine James, brutally killed his sister, Chinomso Nwabali James, and her four-year-old twin children, Moses and Marvelous Chris.
According to police reports, the horrifying incident occurred on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The suspect allegedly attacked his sister and her children before burying the twins in a shallow grave within the family compound. A family member later discovered him dragging his sister’s lifeless body but was unable to stop him before he fled to an unknown location.
Despite reassurances from the Abia State Police Command that a manhunt is underway, panic has gripped the neighborhood as residents fear the suspect may return. Some have pleaded with the government and security agencies to ensure his swift arrest before more lives are lost.
Speaking on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, urged families to seek professional treatment for mentally ill relatives rather than leaving them unsupervised at home. She assured the public that all efforts are being made to apprehend the fugitive.
