Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian music sensation Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has publicly decried the intense harassment she has faced since her husband’s untimely death. In a recent appearance on TVC’s “Your View,” Omowunmi revealed that her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, has been pressuring her for a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her son, Liam, leading to widespread public scrutiny and bullying.
“I have nothing to hide. I don’t have an issue with my father-in-law asking me for a DNA test, but it’s the way he is going about it. Presently, I am the most bullied widow in Nigeria,” Omowunmi lamented.
She recounted how her relationship with Joseph Aloba deteriorated after Mohbad’s death. According to Omowunmi, they were once close, with her father-in-law even encouraging her and Mohbad to have a child before they felt ready, using fasting and prayer to influence their decision.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was buried less than 24 hours later in Ikorodu, Lagos State. Due to controversies surrounding his death, his body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy. The results of this autopsy have not been publicly disclosed.
The demand for a DNA test has escalated tensions between Omowunmi and her father-in-law. While she has expressed willingness to conduct the test, she accuses Joseph Aloba of avoiding the process and using social media to defame her and her son. In a letter dated January 16, 2025, Omowunmi’s legal representatives stated that Aloba rejected her choice of hospital for the DNA test and dismissed alternative suggestions, further delaying the process.
This family dispute has attracted significant public attention, with many taking to social media to voice their opinions. Omowunmi continues to advocate for her late husband’s legacy and the well-being of their son amidst the ongoing challenges.
