Residents of Imo State are urgently calling on the government to address the severe deterioration of the Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze Road, a critical artery connecting key communities and institutions. The road’s deplorable condition has persisted for over a decade, exacerbated by recent heavy rains that have rendered it nearly impassable.

Mrs. Ngozi Uche, a resident of Ihiagwa, expressed the community’s frustration: “The state of this road is a nightmare, and we’re pleading with the government to come to our aid.”

Despite previous government assurances, including plans announced in October 2024 to embark on massive road construction projects as the rainy season receded, the Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze Road remains neglected.

The road’s deterioration has significantly impacted daily commuters, businesses, and students, particularly those attending nearby institutions. Residents report numerous potholes, erosion, and a lack of proper drainage systems, leading to frequent accidents and vehicle damage.

A video shared on social media highlights the dire situation, showing vehicles and pedestrians struggling through flooded and muddy sections of the road.

As the rainy season intensifies, the urgency for governmental intervention grows. Residents are calling for immediate action to rehabilitate the road, emphasizing that its restoration is vital for economic activities and the well-being of the communities it serves.
